Mark Hayes: Precision with Purpose
Sassoon Senior International Creative Director | Serious Business® 2027 Speaker
Great hair design begins with a clear point of view. For Mark Hayes, that perspective comes from decades of dedication to craft, a love of modernist art and architecture, and a belief in sharing what you know.
As Sassoon’s Senior International Creative Director, Mark brings more than 40 years of experience to his work as a hair designer, educator, and creative leader. His signature pared-down aesthetic reflects an approach where shape, technique, and intention work together—and every detail has a purpose.
A Career Built on Craft and Curiosity
Mark began his Sassoon career in 1977 as an apprentice at the South Molton Street salon in London. Inspired by the Creative Team’s commitment to excellence, he quickly saw a future that extended beyond building a clientele.
That ambition took him into education, first at the London school and then at the Sassoon Academy. Creative leadership roles in Manchester and London followed, along with opportunities to create hair for international stages, photo shoots, and runway shows.
Across each chapter, teaching remained central to his work. From coaching emerging talent to developing future creative directors, Mark has dedicated his career to helping other hairdressers expand their skills and possibilities.
Getting Clear About Your Creative Direction
Mark’s approach offers a compelling connection to the Serious Business® 2027 theme, Getting Clear: understanding your craft, developing your perspective, and bringing purpose to the choices you make.
For stylists, educators, and salon leaders, his story is an invitation to consider what shapes your creative identity—and how you can help others discover theirs.
